Alton, NH insights, statistics, photos, and MLS listings

Alton is located at the southern most tip of Lake Winnipesaukee. Don't think you'll be able to wear your shorts and flip flops all year 'round because it is down South, as evidenced by all the bob houses on the bay come January. But you'll find a quaint little village area with banks, restaurants, realtors, the Gilman Library, the Community Church, Police Station, Town Hall, a medical clinic, food markets, hardware and building supply stores and Alton Town Hall. They even built a big new fancy supermarket recently so folks don't have to travel all the way up to Gilford anymore. Getting to be a big city now, you know.

But to me the best part of Alton is the area around the bay. You'll feel like you stepped back in time just a bit. It has a seasonal ambience with lots of cottages overlooking the lake, the usual seafood restaurants, ice cream stands, marinas, craft shops, and the Town Beach. It is the southernmost port of call for the Mount Washington Cruise ship.

Check out the fantastic views from Alton Mountain Road looking up the bay and by hiking to the top of Mt. Major which is about half way to Gilford on Route 11.
