Center Harbor is and always has been a picturesque resort community. Located on the northern shores of Lake Winnipesaukee, she sits midway between Meredith and Moutonborough and in between the Big Lake and Squam Lake. Kind of stuck in the middle, but what a place to be stuck! She's a sleepy little community but has a small commercial area located right on the bay. You'll find a great hardware store, restaurants, some antique as well as unique shops, a supermarket, and a super quilting shop. No, I don't quilt. It must be super though, because it is always busy. There is also a wonderful furniture store that has the right kind of stuff to fill your new vacation home. You know the kind of lake style furniture I mean.
Fortunately for all, Center Harbor hasn't changed a whole lot (population-wise that is). From 1990 to 2000 it experienced zero population growth, which is probably just fine for the folks who live there. The population does explode a bit in the summer, which is to be expected in this long time resort. One grand lady comes to reside each and every winter; the M/S Mount Washington makes Center Harbor her winter home.
Some things have changed though. The one room school house closed in the 1970's and the town now sends its kids next door to Meredith. And one significant new change is that a new 9,500 Sq Ft multi million dollar performance facility for the NH Music Festival, one of the most outstanding cultural events in the state, will be constructed soon.
You can enjoy a round of golf at the beautiful 18-hole Waukewan Country Club, enjoy water activities on Lake Winnipesaukee and Squam Lake, or take an easy day trip up to Franconia Notch or to Conway all from this little resort community stuck right somewhere in the middle of wonderful.
