Gilford has to be one of the Lakes Region of New Hampshire's most desirable communities to visit, vacation, or live in. Gilford's village and town center has great historical charm with white clapboard antique homes, country store, ball fields, and tennis courts. The village spreads out and down to the shores of Lake Winnipesaukee where you'll find several yacht clubs and marinas and two of the nicest beaches in the Lakes Region; the Gilford town beach and Ellacoya State Park. Both have large, beautiful sandy beaches. The Big Lake is a Big Thing in Gilford.
Gilford has some of the finest neighborhoods in the region including prestigious Governors Island where being in the upper tax bracket is a prerequisite to buying. Million dollar homes are being torn down to build multi-million dollar ones. Gilford just feels like a place where you would want to live and play. Recognized for its quality of life, Gilford boasts a top quality school system with a new middle school and construction underway for a new town library.
You'll find great restaurants and convenient shopping with Hannafords, Shaws, Wal-Mart, TJ Max, Home Goods and a new Lowes store in town. For golf nuts there is Pleasant Ridge Country Club offering 18-holes and lots of woods to search for your lost balls. If you are into skiing, the Gunstock Area offers great family fun with trails to fit everyone's abilities as well as snowboarding, night skiing, and tubing. It is one of New Hampshire's oldest and most popular ski areas. The facility also has an outstanding summer camp ground, and they put on events like a fall Octoberfest, craft fairs and antique car shows.
One of the coolest things in Gilford is the Meadowbrook Music Arts Center. All summer it plays host to some of the biggest stars in country, rock and pop with a variety of seating packages from up front and personal to out back in the lawn seats next to the beer tent. You get to see some great shows at some really affordable prices and you can be home by ten!
