Moultonborough is the largest lakefront community in the Lakes Region of New Hampshire with 65 miles of shorefront on several lakes. Because Moultonborough has so much valuable waterfront property, it benefits by having one of the lower property tax structures in the State making it one of the most desirable places to own a waterfront home.
The Town seems to have it all. Natural beauty, lots of waterfront, great infrastructure including a new Town Hall, a new fire and police facility, a great school system, friendly people, and low, low taxes. Why wouldn't they be friendly!?!
The Old Country Store in the village is on the National Register of Historic Places and is one place you need to visit. They have just about everything you can imagine there and some things you couldn't. And don't miss the Loon Center where you can walk along quiet lakeside paths, take in the natural beauty of the area, and listen for their call.
Moultonborough is also home to the "Castle in the Clouds," an estate set high up in the Ossipee Mountains which was originally called "Lucknow". Built from 1913 to 1914 and originally sitting on 6,300 acres, this magnificent stone mansion has an equally magnificent stable which now hosts special events and weddings. The property has phenomenal, sweeping views of Lake Winnipesaukee. It is a great place to get a sense to the size and grandeur of Lake Winnipesauke and the Lakes Region. Tours there are a popular tourist attraction and one that I'd highly recommend.
The town has lots of restaurants, pubs, and shops strung along Route 25. Some restaurants like the fabulous Woodshed Restaurant (which is packed even in the dead of winter) are a little harder to find but worth the effort.
You'll find one of the main waterfront areas in town down on the "Neck" which eventually leads you down to Long Island (no, not the one in New York). The Neck is pretty much all residential with the exception of marinas, some summer camps for kids, and Jo Jo's Country Store.
If you are looking for Lake Winnipesaukee waterfront or water access property then you are likely to end up looking in Moultonborough. There is a wide range of property available with pricing anywhere from the half million to multi-million dollar range. Moultonborough is a great place to vacation in or make your permanent home.
