Tilton is one of the main jumping off points from Interstate 93 to get to the Lakes Region of New Hampshire. As little as 15 years ago, there was nothing at exit 20 when you got off except for a gas station or two and Pike Paving Industries whic had acres and acres of trucks and equipment. It was completely dark there at night.
It has now grown into one of the area's biggest and brightest shopping attractions with the Tanger Factory Outlet Mall, Lowes, Wal-Mart, Home Depot, Staples, Kohls, and a B.J.'s outlet. You'll find plenty to choose from as far as restaurants with many of the chains there along with the home spun Tilton Diner for a little taste of nostalgia.
Downtown Tilton is on the west side of the highway and has numerous shops and restaurants along Main St. There is a cool little waterfront park along the Winnipesaukee River where they have band concerts in the summer. Tilton also has some lake frontage along Silver Lake and Lake Winnisquam and several marinas to tend to the boaters needs.
If you head east on Rt 3 toward Laconia, you'll find the 18 hole Lochmere Country Club along with a variety of retail businesses and restaurants. There's a lot to look at on this busy two lane road and there are a large number of fender benders as the result of people stopping to turn, so be careful.
You'll find this community to consist of primarily year round residents; however, with the frontage on the two lakes there are some great opportunities for vacation, water access, and waterfront properties.
