Located between Moultonborough and Wolfeboro on Rt 109, Tuftonboro is comprised of the villages of Mirror Lake, Tuftonboro Corner and Melvin Village. It has miles and miles of water frontage on Lake Winnipesaukee and Mirror Lake with fantastic water views all along this scenic road. Like Moultonborough, Tuftonboro has benefited by this large amount of waterfront yielding a very low, low tax rate.
You won't find any shopping here other than a couple of convenience stores, thankfully with gas. You will find a charming, small New England community that takes you back to simpler times.
Along Rt 109 you'll find The Bald Peak Colony Club in charming Melvin Village. This is a private country club and residential community along the shores of Lake Winnipesaukee. You'll also find the Melvin Village Marina if you should need gas for your boat or a new prop.
Tuftonboro was originally owned by just one man, Mr. John Tufton Mason, hence the name. He sold the town to a group of Portsmouth merchants in 1746. Any guess as to what that would be worth today?
